AWS and AMRC Data Archive

The Automatic Weather Stations' Project and the Antarctic Meteorological Research Center archive many forms of meteorological data available for use by the scientific community and the public, free of charge. Users of the data are asked only to acknowledge the AWS or AMRC project appropriately, for anything produced or published that uses the data. Much of the AWS's and AMRC's data is provided online - via ftp or web, but some data has yet to be added to the Web, so feel free to ask for other types of data not listed below. To request data from the AWS project or the AMRC, please contact us at amrc@ssec.wisc.edu.

Radiosonde Observations

We have an archive of radiosonde data available from 1980-1993 for all of Antarctica, along with 1956-1979, 1994-present for McMurdo Station, and 1977-1990, 1993-present South Pole Station. We also have some radiosonde data up to 1998 for McMurdo and South Pole Stations as archived by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). Since 1 November 1996, we have archived the mandatory and some significant level radiosonde data from around the Southern Hemisphere, stored off-line and available upon request, in addition to the files listed above.
